Beyond Herbs: The Healing Power of Clay, Fermented Foods and Homemade Cheeses
Sunday, September 12, 2010 – 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

For thousands of years, cultures have utilized clays for healing, both internally and externally. People would travel far and wide to be wrapped in clay, Mother Earth herself, knowing the extraordinary healing properties of “dirt”. Additionally, many cultures still ferment certain foods because of the healing qualities that fermentation provides. In this class, we will talk about clays, in particular one found here in the U.S., and how this wonderfully healing product can become part of your “medicine bag.” Then we will sample and make 2 fermented foods/drinks and discuss this way of working with food and the positive affect (including how it is an anti-cancer ally!) it has on our bodies. Finally, I will show you a very simple way to make your own soft cheese right at home. You will leave with handouts and recipes for further experimentation.

***Wednesday Sept 15th *** Haiti Alive ~ 7pm ***
Smokin’ McQueen, back after a five month stint assisting rubble removal and building in Jacmel, Haiti is presenting a workshop designed to educate, enlighten and share his rich experience in Haiti. The workshop will include information on Haiti’s history, geography, and its rich and welcoming culture, people, and music; also the workshop will include instruction in the Haitian Kreyol language, the rundown on Haitian voodou and its roots, and the scoop on issues facing Haiti politically, economically and agriculturally before and after January’s earthquake. Expect to leave the workshop with a clearer picture of problems facing Haiti’s future and Smokin’s personal recommendations for how to help. Tea with me. My personal blended teas and cookies combined with discussion topics for an intimate conversation setting. This months topics will be “Faith- you gotta have it! This months tea will discuss connection with Spirit, faith and trust in spirit, and releasing the doubt. “ Ten seats are available at my tea table for discussion, fun, and sharing. We will stay loosely on topic of faith and trust in spirit, and releasing the doubt. Many of you have asked for an opportunity just like this to pick my brain, so bring your questions and curiosity! This is a basic overview of the histories and mysteries of one of the unfamiliar healing religions that has rapidly grown across America. Starting with the foundation and history then moving upwards into its concepts and purposes. This workshop will review the growth and progress of this every growing and evolving religion as it progresses throughout the world. 7-9pm $15 a seat, 4 person min.
